Edinburgh Whisky Academy is a true thorough-bred in terms of whisky provenance.
A family business with whisky roots dating back to the 19th century, we combine excellent experience and knowledge of today’s ever-evolving whisky landscape.
The family’s commitment to pioneering through the generations is unquestionable, from the dawn of whisky blending and distillation and the supply of Mackinlays Scotch to the legendary Shackleton expedition in the early 1900s to the development of industry-leading wood knowledge.
It is the adoption of this spirit that has led to the creation of an independent and progressive education, training and knowledge-building Academy dedicated to the history, production and appreciation of Scotland’s foremost export.
The Academy is the only centre of whisky education fully accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority which ensures it is rigorous and robust, delivering to the highest possible standards. It also means that those undertaking the courses are fully assessed on their learning and knowledge.
Founder Kirsty McKerrow has worked at the heart of the industry and identified a real gap in the quality of brand neutral education. This led to the creation of the Academy in 2015.
Right choice for whisky education
"I was planning to learn more about whisky and get a certificate and did a lot of research. I contacted EWA a few months ago and everything was perfect: the building, the hospitality, the food that was served and finally the course itself, with a very experienced, knowledgeable and fun teacher. I definitely recommend the EWA Malt Whisky Diploma - it's worth every penny."
