Meet the Educator: Micky Chan

Specializing in wine, Japanese sake and spirit education for more than 10 years, Micky Chan delivers trainings, seminars and classes for both on-trade and off-trade clients.
Managing Director at Hong Kong Wine Academy, we’re delighted to welcome Micky Chan onboard as an Approved Course Provider. We caught up with him to learn more about what brought him to the role, what makes him tick and what his world of whisky looks like, quickfire style.
I started learning about wine and spirit from WSET, which provides an overview knowledge on various alcoholic beverages. Later, I found that whisky style also deeply relies on the interaction among natural factors – both human and business considerations – and this makes me curious to learn more.
Seeing satisfied faces, having gone on a journey from confusion to understanding is the most rewarding thing for me as a teacher. I believe I can grow through teaching and love that I can share my passion among friends.
Edinburgh Whisky Academy makes me interested to dig in deeper. An official and fascinating qualification, I’m excited to share the comprehensive and in-depth industry knowledge of Scotch and single malt whisky.

Not surprising, a classic Johnnie Walker Black Label.

Best whisky you have ever tasted?
A 30-year-old Black Bowmore, which drives me crazy… I enter another realm of whisky with that one.

Favourite distillery to visit?

Favourite non-whisky drink?
Japanese sake.

Favourite whisky and food pairing?
Smoked oysters.

What person, dead or alive, would you most like to share a dram with?
Jim Murray, a famous whisky writer. As I first leant my whisky knowledge from his yearly whisky bible.
