Glenfiddich
Glenfiddich Distillery is one of the most famous and highly regarded single malt Scotch whisky distilleries in the world. Situated in Dufftown, Moray (in the heart of Speyside), the distillery sits in the scenic valley of the River Fiddich, from which it takes its name.
Glenfiddich, which means "Valley of the Deer" in Gaelic, is one of the few remaining distilleries in Scotland to still be family-owned. It played a crucial role in popularising single malt Scotch whisky globally, particularly during the 1960s and 1970s when the company started marketing its single malts internationally.
History
Glenfiddich was founded in 1887 by William Grant. With the help of his seven sons and two daughters, Grant built the distillery by hand. The first spirit flowed from the stills on Christmas Day in 1887. Glenfiddich remains family-owned, now under the ownership of William Grant & Sons Ltd.
Production Style & Core Range
Glenfiddich is known for its light, fruity and fragrant whiskies. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and its production methods have been refined over more than a century. The water used in production is sourced from the nearby Robbie Dhu springs. Glenfiddich offers an extensive core range of whiskies, including: Glenfiddich 12 Year Old (known for its fresh, fruity aroma and flavours of pear, butterscotch and oak), Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve (matured in a combination of sherry, bourbon and new oak casks, and finished in a unique solera vat), Glenfiddich 18 Year Old (rich and complex, with notes of dried fruit, candied peel and oak), Glenfiddich 21 Year Old Reserva Rum Cask Finish (finished in Caribbean rum casks, adding a hint of tropical fruit and toffee).
Pioneering Packaging
Glenfiddich introduced the distinctive triangular bottle, which has become an iconic symbol of the brand. Read whisky writer Iain Russell' blog feature: The Tround: An Iconic Bottle for more detail on this standout design.
Visitor Centre
Glenfiddich offers a comprehensive visitor experience, with guided tours that explore the distillery's history, production process and maturation techniques. The tours often include tastings of various expressions and there is both a shop and a restaurant on site.
