Tamdhu
Situated near the village of Knockando in the heart of Speyside, Tamdhu Distillery is known for producing rich, sherry-influenced whiskies.
History
Tamdhu Distillery was founded in 1897 by a consortium of whisky blenders and merchants, led by William Grant and Sons. It was acquired by Highland Distillers in 1916. In 2011, the distillery was mothballed by its then-owner, the Edrington Group. However, it was subsequently purchased by Ian Macleod Distillers in 2012, who revived production.
Production Style
Tamdhu whiskies are known for their rich, full-bodied character with a strong sherry influence. The distillery uses copper pot stills for distillation, and the spirit is matured predominantly in sherry oak casks sourced from Spain. This maturation process imparts flavors of dried fruits, spices, and rich oak to the whisky.
Core Range
Tamdhu offers a core range of expressions, including Tamdhu 10 Year Old, Tamdhu Batch Strength, and Tamdhu 12 Year Old. Tamdhu periodically releases limited-edition expressions and special releases. These may include older age statements, cask strength editions, or whiskies with unique cask finishes, providing enthusiasts with opportunities to explore different facets of Tamdhu's character.
