Whisky cocktails: The Fitzroy
To ask a man to narrow down his favourite Scotch/Irish whisky based cocktail is, by far, one of the hardest questions you throw at someone.
There are some great drinks out there but I would have to go with a whisky highball. Nothing beats that refreshing feeling it brings, especially on a hot day or after a hard slog behind the bar. But for something a little more interesting and to make your mouth think I’d go for The Fitzroy.
The Fitzroy
45ml Glenfarclas 12 year old
5ml Laphroaig 10 year old
25ml Belsasar Sweet Vermouth
2 dashes of aromatic bitters
Stirred down and served straight up in a Nick & Nora glass, expressed orange oils over the top and garnished with a proper Maraschino cherry.
The Sherry and fruit notes of the Glenfarclas marry well with the deep red fruit and liquorice flavours of the vermouth which lets the medicinal peaty malt push through and scream that it’s still there, even in a small, small quantity.
