Meet the Educator: Romain Bodenan
We’re delighted to welcome Romain Bodenan as our second Approved Course Provider in France. Based in Bordeaux, Romain is the Founding Director of Ma Dégustation Privée, a leading company dedicated to introducing people to beer and spirits through tastings, events and education. He now joins fellow educator Guillaume Reynaud of TerraRhona in Tain l’Hermitage to expand whisky learning opportunities across France.
In His Own Words
I’ve been passionate about spirits for more than 10 years, particularly whisky. Over that time, I’ve scoured trade shows and tastings all over France, constantly on the lookout for new flavours and products to share with others. Every month, I’m adding something new to my personal cellar or to the tastings I host.
As the Founding Director of Ma Dégustation Privée, I provide a wide range of services: from sales and web marketing delegation for professionals, to themed workshops, private tastings, and events for individuals and businesses. Whether it’s a birthday party, team-building seminar, or client event, I love creating memorable tasting experiences.
For me, teaching is about passing on knowledge and feeling useful in the process. There’s nothing more rewarding than enriching someone intellectually, sparking their curiosity, and seeing them flourish as they explore new flavours and products.
What excites me about working with the Edinburgh Whisky Academy is the rigour and commitment to whisky education. EWA is recognised internationally as a mark of quality in spirits education, and I’m proud to bring that to learners here in France.
My advice to anyone wanting to learn more about whisky is simple: meet enthusiasts, exchange ideas, taste as widely as you can, form your own opinions, and above all never stop learning.
