We’re pleased to announce a major refresh of the Online Diploma in Single Malt Whisky, strengthening one of the world’s most respected whisky qualifications with new content, new tastings and deeper global perspective.
Certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and trusted by hundreds of candidates since its online launch in 2021, the Diploma has been updated to reflect how quickly the whisky world - particularly beyond Scotland - is evolving.

What’s New for 2025
A newly authored World Whiskies module by Dave Broom
The World Whiskies module has been completely refreshed and authored by leading whisky writer Dave Broom, bringing fresh thinking, humour, storytelling and decades of global whisky expertise to the course. The module places Scotch single malt within a broader international context, exploring styles, traditions and flavour profiles from across the whisky-producing world.
To accompany the refreshed content, the Diploma’s tasting pack has also been updated. Six new carefully selected whiskies representing key global styles will support the World Whiskies module, creating a distinctive sensory journey unique to Edinburgh Whisky Academy.
New in-depth video discussions in the History module
The History of Whisky and Distillation module now includes new video discussions featuring Dave Broom and Iain Russell, adding depth, clarity and lively debate to one of the Diploma’s core subjects. These videos make the learning experience more engaging and accessible while maintaining the academic rigour the Diploma is known for.

By refreshing both content and tastings, the Online Diploma in Single Malt Whisky ensures graduates receive the most up-to-date, authoritative education available, while retaining the structure, depth and formal recognition of an SQA-certified qualification.
The refreshed Online Diploma in Single Malt Whisky is available from early January 2026.
