We’re delighted to share that the first in-person Certificate in American Single Malt Whiskey course was hosted by Yiğit Akdemir in Türkiye earlier this month.
Yiğit was the very first educator to come on board as an Approved Course Provider. Since joining the programme, he has consistently led the way; not only by teaching with energy and integrity, but by helping us shape what the Approved Course Provider network can become. With over 50 Certificate courses delivered and more than 450 certifications achieved, Yiğit has been instrumental in building a strong foundation for certified whisky education in Türkiye and beyond.

This latest achievement – running the first classroom-based session of the Certificate in American Single Malt Whiskey – is a testament to his commitment to structured and progressive whisky learning. The course welcomed five candidates, all of whom had previously studied Edinburgh Whisky Academy courses with Uzkeba. Their return for further learning speaks volumes about the trust and value built through Yiğit’s approach.
The Certificate in American Single Malt Whiskey was developed in collaboration with some of the leading voices from across the ASMW landscape. As the category continues to evolve and assert its identity on the global stage, we’re proud to see this qualification making an international impact.
Kirsty McKerrow, our Founder & Managing Director, said: “Yiğit’s work is a perfect example of what makes the Approved Course Provider programme so special: local educators delivering global knowledge, supported by formal certification and a shared commitment to independent expertise.”
We offer our warmest congratulations to Yiğit and to the five new graduates of this landmark session. Here's to the future of American Single Malt and to the future of whisky education around the world.
