Dave Broom

Dave Broom is an award-winning author and one of the world’s most respected whisky writers, with more than three decades of experience exploring spirits and the people, places and cultures behind them.

Since beginning his career in drinks writing in the late 1980s, Dave has travelled extensively across the world’s whisky-producing regions, visiting distilleries, interviewing makers and sharing his expertise through books, articles, tastings and education. His work combines a deep understanding of whisky production and flavour with a passion for the stories and communities that shape the spirit.

He has written numerous acclaimed books on whisky and spirits, including The World Atlas of Whisky, Whisky: The Manual, A Sense of Place and The Way of Whisky. A regular contributor to the international drinks world, Dave has received multiple awards for his writing and his contribution to whisky communication and education.

In 2025, Dave brought his extensive global whisky expertise to Edinburgh Whisky Academy, rewriting the World Whiskies module of the Diploma in Single Malt Whisky.
