Professor Michael Moss

Professor Michael Moss was the Glasgow University Archivist for more than 20 years (1974-2001) and later worked at the University of Northumbria as Professor of Archival Science.  

In 1981, he co-wrote The Making of Scotch Whisky; one of the most detailed records of the history of Scotch whisky and the distilling industry more generally. A second edition was published in 2000.

Before his death in 2021, Michael was working with the Lost Distillery Company as the lead in their archiving team.

We are hugely grateful to Michael for his invaluable wit, wisdom and advice on many a topic over the years. His contribution as an industry expert to the academy - and to the wider whisky industry - is remarkable and he will be very much missed.
