Scottish Qualifications Authority

The Academy is the only centre of whisky education fully accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. This ensures it is rigorous and robust, delivering knowledge, material and content to the highest possible standards. It also means those undertaking the courses are fully assessed on their learning and knowledge.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is the executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government responsible for accrediting educational awards. It is responsible for awarding all education qualifications in Scotland outwith University qualifications.

The Academy is an accredited SQA centre, meaning that we can teach, assess and certify all of our courses internally.

As an accredited SQA Centre, the Academy is externally verified on an annual basis for each individual course.

The purpose of external verification is to approve our assessment approach and assessment judgements, and to ensure that all teaching materials and assessment methods meet the SQA requirements. External verification is the quality assurance process that the SQA uses in order to make sure that the required standards are being applied consistently by all centres offering internally-assessed SQA qualifications.

Recent External Verification results:

Diploma in Single Malt Whisky – May 2018.
