Auchentoshan

Auchentoshan Distillery is situated in the Lowlands region, specifically in Clydebank, near Glasgow. It is renowned for its triple distillation process, which gives its whiskies a distinctively smooth and delicate character.

History
Auchentoshan was established in 1823 by John Bulloch. Over the years, it has changed ownership multiple times and has undergone significant renovations and expansions. The distillery was heavily damaged during World War II due to its proximity to the Clydebank shipyards but was rebuilt afterward. Auchentoshan is currently owned by Beam Suntory, a subsidiary of the Japanese beverage company Suntory Holdings. Beam Suntory owns several other well-known whisky brands, including Laphroaig, Bowmore, and Yamazaki.

Production Style & Core Range
Auchentoshan produces a variety of styles, ranging from light and floral to richer and more complex whiskies. The distillery uses unpeated malt, contributing to its smooth and delicate profile. One of Auchentoshan's most distinctive features is its use of triple distillation, a process more commonly associated with Irish whiskey than Scotch. This process involves distilling the spirit three times, resulting in a lighter, more delicate whisky with a higher alcohol content before maturation. The spirit is typically matured in a combination of American oak bourbon barrels, sherry casks and occasionally other types of casks for special editions.

Auchentoshan American Oak, aged exclusively in first-fill American oak bourbon barrels, is known for its vanilla, coconut and citrus notes. Auchentoshan 12 Year Old is a balanced whisky with toffee, almonds and a hint of citrus. Auchentoshan Three Wood is matured bourbon, Oloroso sherry and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks resulting in a rich, complex flavour profile. Auchentoshan 18 Year Old offers deeper flavours with notes of ripe citrus, green tea, and toasted almonds.

Visitor Centre
Auchentoshan Distillery has a popular visitor centre that offers guided tours and tastings. Visitors can learn about the distillation process, explore the distillery's history and sample a variety of Auchentoshan whiskies. The distillery is conveniently located near Glasgow, making it easily accessible for tourists.
